I have made 5 new startup investments in the past few months. A common thread in these investments is that these firms combine data and analytics to solve real-world problems in novel ways. It is obvious that we live in a data-driven world and yet few firms do much with the terabytes of data sitting in their servers. Enter some of the startups created by EnableTech alumni:

Custora: In short, optimized marketing through better customer analysis. Custora analyzes customer data for its clients (cohort analysis, CLV, churn analysis) to create an optimized marketing campaigns. Example, identify and customize email promotions for “gold” customers versus customers most likely to churn. Founder and former student, Corey Pierson, uses many of the tools he picked up from Pete Fader’s excellent customer analytics class.

Stylitics: In short, Nielsen for Fashion. Stylitics’ panel of users report the clothes they wear on a daily basis. Stylitics analyzes the data to provide unique insights for brands. Example, with what brands are your products co-worn, what % of your customer’s wardrobe is your brand, how often are your items worn, etc. Stylitics promises to improve merchandising, promotions and marketing through better lifestyle analytics. Founder and former student, Rohan Deuskar, turned down Amazon to go start Stylitics.

Wantworthy: Your universal wish-list. Save items you want from any website into your wish list. Manage wish list and share with friends. Appeal lies in its clean and simple design. Founders Lauren McDevitt and Josh Wais are both former students of EnableTech.

RJMetrics: Hosted Business Intelligence. RJMetrics securely extracts key pieces of company data, analyzes the data, and presents charts/reports to better understand business performance. A must for CEOs and board members. Founders were using many of the techniques such as cohort analysis in their previous job as Private Equity analysts. Cofounder Jake Stein is an EnableTech alumnus.

SocioSquare: Digital agency based in India. Sociosquare addresses key product gaps in the digital marketing space in India, including analytics-driven campaigns, reporting KPIs through a customer dashboard and providing DIY tools for clients. The team consists of the best social media marketers in India. Founder Gaurav Mendiratta is a former student.
