Design: Creation of Artifacts in Society is a book which I hope will first appear as an integrated volume in 2007. I intend for this site to contain the chapters as they are completed and revised, even after the first edition is published. The book will be available at no charge in electronic form to anyone with a web browser.

This is a lovely dry-laid stone wall in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which has probably stood for more than a century without mortar. I enjoy building stone walls, a relatively rare form of design in which one works directly with the production medium instead of with a symbolic representation of the design space. This book is kind of like a stone wall for me. I have a few decent stones in place and I am working to fit many more chunks into a structure that holds together reasonably well. However, there isn't a grand plan and it's likely that I'll juggle the content in the coming months and years.
